MIHAS APPRENTICE CHEFS’ COMPETITION 2009 |

The MIHAS Apprentice Chefs’ Competition (MACC) was held from the 8 -10 May 2009 where young aspiring chefs from established culinary colleges and academies competed for the Silverspoon Award and grand cash prize of US$5,000.00, US$3,000.00 for 1st runner-up and US$1,500.00 for 2nd runner up. |

Being unique for its kind, MACC 2009 objective is to provide an avenue for apprentice chefs to challenge their skills and at the same time gain experiences from renowned chefs in order to be the crème de la crème in the culinary scene. MACC is the first ‘halal’ only cooking competition and it is our hope that MACC will infuse and promote the culture of cooking with halal ingredients into a way of life. |

A total of 90 apprentice chefs from 12 culinary colleges competed in three classes with nine sub-classes. This 3-day long competition is hosted by our local celebrity chef, Chef Zamzani from KDU College Petaling Jaya. |

Four professional chefs were invited to become the panel of judges for MACC and they are, Chef Johari Edrus a former president for the Chef Association Malaysia (CAM) and an Assistant Director for Food and Beverages at Tradewinds Corporation – the biggest hotel chain operator in Malaysia amongst it the Hilton, certified master Chef Jasman Saidun, a former executive chef of the Queen Elizabeth II and Carnival Cruise Liner group, Chef Raymond Siek an executive chef of the Datai Langkawi and also Chef Marcel Kofler an executive chef of the Madarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur. |

| A Gala Cocktail and Award Presentation were held on the 10th May 2009 to commemorate theses aspiring young chefs and present the Silverspoon award to the winners of MACC 2009. The Gala Cocktail was attended by Mr. Farid Z Hamid from HDC, Mr. Mohd Shukri Abdullah and Ms. Wan Norma Wan Daud from MATRADE. |
